Meet Jane Corwin
Jane Corwin is seeking to serve as the next Assemblywoman representing New York’s 142nd District because she is tired of the steady economic decline she has witnessed in Western New York. She has watched as countless numbers of young people leave the Buffalo area for opportunities elsewhere.
As a full time mother of three and a community volunteer, Jane cares about Western New York and is determined to change the course of economic decline in our area. She believes that the best vehicle to improve the quality of life and local economy in Western New York, and to create opportunities so that her children can stay and prosper in our community, is to make her voice heard in the State Assembly.
Holding the line on spending with a goal of cutting taxes, eliminating unfunded state mandates which drive up local property taxes and creating an environment that attracts businesses to the region is the foundation on which Corwin is running. She will also work toward making the legislative process more transparent and representatives accountable for their decision-making.
As Assistant Treasurer for the Collins for Our Future Campaign she took the first step towards making a contribution to the revitalization of the local community. The basis of Chris Collins campaign, to stand up for taxpayers, is a theme she will carry to Albany.
Building on her private sector experience, Jane Corwin will take a business-like approach to solving the problems of state government.
As a high school student she worked part time at the Talking Phone Book then went on to earn an undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Albany and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Pace University. Upon graduating she pursued a career on Wall Street and served as the Director of Research at Henry Ansbacher, Inc., responsible for valuation, analysis and presentation of client businesses for sale. She later returned to Western New York and took a position as Vice President at the Talking Phone Book and eventually became a full time mother of three.
As a full time mom and community volunteer she continued to serve the Talking Phone Book on the Board of Directors as Secretary and Treasurer. She oversaw corporate business practices and strategies resulting in sales growth of more that 1,200 percent. As the business grew and prospered both in Western New York and outside the area, jobs were brought to the Buffalo region and a commitment was made to the local economy. In 2004 The Talking Phone Book was sold to the Hearst Corporation under terms which preserved and added jobs here in the Buffalo Area.
In addition to her private sector business experience, Jane is an active member of our community. She is the President and Founder of the Philip M. and Jane Lewis Corwin Foundation, which provides direct funding for educational, medical and religious charities to benefit children. She also serves as the President of the Josephine Goodyear Committee at the Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo; Confirmation Leader at Zion Lutheran Church; and is a member of the Grant Review Committee for Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
Her other past affiliations include numerous charities, the Ledgeview Elementary School PTO, and the Boy and Girl Scouts of Buffalo and Erie County.
Along with their three children Melanie, Kellie and William, Jane and her husband, Philip, reside in Clarence, NY.
